hey, mom was right!

went to free Winsor & Newton demo at University Art, San Jose.

received free permanent sap green & cotman brush.

did some little pencil drawing of customers at local japanese bakery.

then redrew/painted her at home.

nice smooth color, interesting subtle variation in color. brush holds very fine sharp end

also, demo-ist (that a word) Christine Hanlon mentioned an interesting starter

triad to work with. and once I saw it, wham. immediately felt the color palette that i think in.

was funny as she was talking about it as if only good for drawing children's toys or something else artificial. nope, for me, is what i'd work in.

I met Tim Roseborough at one of the 2010 01SJ Biennial meetings. We share an interest in digital art, new media art. He features such works at his San Francisco Scenius gallery.

And, we can all participate. I've been reading through the information, not sure how he would describe, but this seems to be in the real of "crowd sourced". Interesting project.

CALL FOR CREATIVES FOR Kaleid Gallery TWO BUCK TUESDAY

Hi there! You are invited to be a part of KALEID Gallery's Two Buck Tuesday event!


NO FEE NO COMMISSION !!!


Two Buck Tuesday is a monthly (3rd Tuesday of every month) $2 art sale and artist/quirky people get-together with music, live art, open sketching table, demos, performances, informal speakers and other artsy happenings!  Those of you who have participated before are always welcome back!

This month the event is February 15th from 7-9 pm at KALEID Gallery, 88 S. 4th St. ste 130 San Jose, CA 95112  www.kaleidgallery.com

• -We're looking for artists who would like to come out and paint/create live.  Set up your easel and let people see you at work!  You'd be welcome to bring a small table to sell your artwork.  
• -We are especially interested in anyone who would like to do a demo especially something interactive.  It would be okay to have a small fee if you help a person make something they can take home with them.
• -We're also looking for performers-musicians, puppeteers, actors, comedians, jugglers, dancers, etc.

If you are interested (or know someone who is) just send me an email and let me know what you'd like to do!

1. If you would like to make artwork for the $2 sale, bring us as many pieces as you would like that are 4"x6" or smaller with your name (and website if you like) on the back.
2. Bring it to us by the Saturday before a Two Buck Tuesday to be a part of the upcoming event.
3. We handle the 2 buck sales so you can submit artwork for the sale even if you can't be there for the event.
4. You can pick up your sales money (again the gallery takes no commission) at the next month's event, just ask at the front desk.

My style is a balance between traditional representational painting and impressionism, based on my desire to create harmonious feeling of peacefulness and beauty. I strongly believe in the importance of positive emotions in our stressful lives, and I hope that my art evokes feelings of peace, happiness and well being in those who view it.

Darwin Poulos
Darwin utilizes 35mm and large format cameras, primarily a Canon A-1 and Shen-Hao 4x5. His B&W photographs are silver gelatin prints produced using traditional darkroom methods. They are usually selenium toned.

The beauty of nature has always fascinated him. The emphasis of his landscape photography is to share the form, texture, and tones that nature has intermingled into such imaginative subjects and stories.
Mr. Poulos has been greatly influenced by Ansel Adams and Edward Weston throughout his photographic career.

Cathy Zander
My styles vary as widely as the media I use, and I draw inspiration from everything around me. Exploring colors is a dominate theme in most of my artwork. When asked what my favorite color is, I'm likely to reply, “the whole rainbow!” My individual art works vary from serene landscapes to playful twists on a theme (like unexpected puns).

worth the wait

I've been patiently working with Pacific Art League and Silicon Valley Community Foundation to place art with the PAL community sites program into the SVCF San Mateo location. So when an opportunity came up, we all pulled together and made it happen.

Wow! it was worth the wait. Always amazes me how art takes on a different look depending on where it is shown. I create the scrolls in my small studio space, somewhere between refrigerator and dishwasher. Then they bloom in different ways depending on space and light.

This location has wide expansive wall with plenty of muted natural light. And is great to see how in the smaller room, they bring color to the place.

Thank you to Ric, Ann, Ed & Joy of PAL, and onsite Steve, also from  PAL & of course to Lydia & Josiah of SVCF for working with us & appreciating the results.

I'm working to create some custom works just for this location, to swap out over the duration.

ok, so Gianfranco and I had our BETA test at San Jose street market, then a super mini tiny BETA at chocolate and coffee Pacific Art League, so finally ready for official rollout of Vignette for the night of 01SJ AbsoluteZERO, which I should make it clear, we were not part of, but thanks to Anno Domini gallery, we were able to enjoy the afternoon and evening (noon - midnight), in front of their gallery.

we should have been part of AbsoluteZERO, as being at the very end of the street, we were first line of question for everyone arriving, so we sent Craig (I think? thanks to you or whoever) to get us a pile of the hard to find maps, which we then handed out.

here, in the order as the half day unfolded, are our Vignettes. if you are one of the ones in the photos, we hope you enjoy your art. we had much fun meeting all of you and making these.

at the exact other end of the entire several blocks, in front of ICA, they were creating tin types. I really wanted one, even at $30, however the sign up sheet was full. they had lights, big set up, developed them in front of you, showing the process.

we also had lights, and developed in front of you, and showed the process and were priced less. ( their $30 was a fair price )

Moose waited and waited and waited for her friends. They never came. Then she waited. So we got to know her, talked about art, you don't need to go to art school to be an artist, just do it. If your Grandfather is famous photographer, learn from him. Next day we learned from the friends Moose was waiting for that we know them, Kate & Eric.

hello Lisa (and Brenda), if you do any more reporting, report on us! seriously,  I mean what I said a couple months ago, someone needs to be the "art beat" reporter for this city, why not you?

We don't mind if you wander off as we take as long as we take to finish. These 3 friends we thought were gone for good. Came back way later. They made the most of the event, trying everything and creating at the craft tables. Gianfranco wrote something Italian on most of the art. Here he writes: Le tre amiche con due baci. (i'm going to check with him to see if I got this right). which means, three friends, two kisses.
